| The identification of the cover
artists on this page is based on two publications - The Iger Comics Kingdom
(1985) by Jay Edward Disbrow and The Book of Jumbo Comics Covers
- Book Number 1 (no other volumes were ever published), which was published
by Al Dellinger in 1979. I have also cross-referenced to The
Grand Comics Database Project (GCD) website for further clarification
where necessary. Jerry Iger collaborated with Disbrow on his
book, and Dellinger's book has an acknowledgment, "Courtesy of Thurman Scott".
Iger was the head of the studio that provided all of the artwork for
the comics published by Fiction House and also claimed to be one of the
creators of the Sheena character, while Scott was the editor-in-chief of
the Fiction House publishing house. Despite having these two heavyweights
providing information for these publications, there is still some doubt
about which artists were responsible for specific covers, especially for
the very early editions. Where there is any disagreement between these
two sources I have provided both names and have identifed the sources. Disbrow's
account is provided first and is numbered (1) and Dellinger's is numbered
(2). The GCD is numbered (3). The publication date of the issue is provided, as well as the name of the featured Sheena story, mostly because I think they are highly amusing and quite evocative. I recommend that you also read Fiction House Comics: Page 3 - Cover Artists if you haven't done so already. |
